Lemon eucalyptus and eucalyptus in general are tall trees up to 60 m tall. Originally from the Australian continent, they settled in Europe in the eighteenth century to fight malaria. In fact, very hungry for water, they allowed many swampy areas to dry up, thus reducing the mosquito population. In addition, it was destined from that moment to the paper industry. But the development of eucalyptus in southern Europe has been to the detriment of native species and, what is more serious, it is a particularly flammable species that is the cause of forest fires in summer, especially in Portugal.
