Botanical name : Lavándula vera (l. Offícínalís / l. Angustifolia)

Habitat : Originally from the mediterranean, it is currently cultivated all over the world. The oil comes mainly from France


Botanical description

Sub-shrub 20-60 cm high, with pivoting root and woody stem at its base, erect, unbranched and covered with a yellowish-gray bark. The ash green leaves are linear, whole, sessile, opposite, narrow and somewhat leathery. The flowers are small and purplish blue, grouped in cylindrical terminal spikes in sets of 6-10 flowers. They sprout in the armpits of oval bracts located at the end of the fertile stems and form several floral rings that give off an intense aroma. The corolla is tubular, with two lips, the upper bilobed and the lower trilobed. The whole plant exhales an intense perfume of very pleasant smell.
